World-renowned guitar expert César Díaz climbed onstage after the departure of bandleader G.E. Smith. Díaz had originally served as Dylan's guitar technician before be drafted into playing.

He later left the band, only to return again as Dylan's guitar tech, reportedly for the same fee as when he was performing.

He is a highly respected expert on guitars and guitar amplification.

In addition to his work with Dylan, Díaz has worked with Eric Clapton (Diaz served as Clapton's technical adviser on the "Journeyman" album) and Keith Richards and the Rolling Stones from 1982 through 1987. He was also a longtime friend of Stevie Ray Vaughan.
